Lünen, July 2011
The pedestrian zone gets a  new surface. For me a good photo opportunity and for my little son great to watch.

Shipping signs at the Danube

Every hundred meters, in Austria near Tulln, August 2008

Kilometric sign in Oltenita, Romania, Oktober 2008

The hecto metric signs are the red numbers on the white ground along the Danube. That's a  lot of work to paint the stones. Kilometric signs are white on black boards.

To go by bus is different

This afternoon, on the way to Waltrop

Indeed photos from my travel look different to the ones from here.

I miss the wilderness. I miss exotic. I miss nature. I miss adventure.

So there will be more pics from there.

In Ethiopia, on the way from Konso to Dimeka, May 2010

In Kenya, on the way from Nairobi to Moyale, May 2010
this is the bus, in the north of Kenya, close to the border, only gravel from Marsabit on
My ABC Wednesday for the letter B is bus. For sure I like to go by bus.

Canadian lake

St. Marys Lake, BC, Canada, July 2009
Fantastic hiking in Canada. Sometimes we walked on Forest Service Roads (on the post below too) from one lake to another over the mountains.
Easy to find a place for the tent for the night.

A is for Amazon

These people come close to our ship and wait for plastik bags with t-shirts.

On board from our cargo and passanger ship, the only private area is your hammock

Thomas and his friends

chicken, turtel, little monkeys on the passanger deck

Andreas watches a small village

The men bring bananas and pigs on board
All photos between Pantoja (Peru) and Belem (Brazil). That was a long trip. One of our biggest adventures.
And, you know, I love the Amazon.

My related posts for the Amazon

Tres Fronteras

Going in a small boat from Peru to Brazil, February 2010

From Wikipedia:
Tres Fronteras (Portuguese: Três Fronteiras) is the Spanish name for an area of the Amazon Rainforest, noted for its natural beauty, where Brazil, Peru, and Colombia meet. Cities near here are Tabatinga, Leticia, and Santa Rosa de Yavari, this latter on an island in front of Leticia.

A very interesting stop on our trip down the Amazon in this three cities and three countries all so close together. But try to imagine how hot and humid it is.

By ship we came in two days from Iquitos (Peru), spend one night in the very quite Santa Rosa (no cars), spend three more nights in Tabatinga. To Leticia we drove by mini bus to change money.

Our trip on the Amazon continued from Tabatinga to Manaus (Brazil). Again two days on a local ship. All easy to organize while we were there.

I posted some photos from this leg before.

Zambia

In the north of Zambia, March 2010

What a fascinating country. Unbelievable nature and friendly people. And the north is very quiet.

In Lusaka we met Patrick (via couchsurfing.org). Watch a video about our visit here on You Tube. He lives outside the slum Chawarma and has a small traditionell restaurant (he cooks only on charcoal ) in the Tourismen Ministry Building in Lusaka. The video is mainly in english.
