What's going on?

Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China, May 2010
What? Where? Who? Why? When? And oh wonder, all these words in German start with a W too. Was, wo, wer, warum, wann.
My ABC Wednesday are all the W question words.

Who is everywhere on Tiananmen Square?
This film team got some trouble while filming there. I nearly got some trouble while taking a picture of these scene.

The fact that all five words in English and German begin with the letter W shows how close the two languages once were before English picked up so many Latin words. :)

We were warned in China that their police and military personnel do not appreciate having their pictures taken. I would think a film crew would have to seek permission (from someone, somewhere) before filming in Tiananmen Square. These people certainly look surprised.

Fascinating. What seems right in one country, offends in another. Great capture. I'm glad you were able to keep it, and didn't get caught.

Thanks for making the German/English connection! And your photo is so timely as it seems easier and easier to be in the wrong place at the wrong time...
Happy traveling!

As I mentioned in my Signs post last week, I think security everywhere are getting rather paranoid about cameras. Stupidly so, I think. Even in small towns in China I get approached by guards when they see me taking photos, but I can usually easily smile them away... It's become part of their security training, I would guess.
