These fisher men are loading ice on the fishing boat, Beypure, Indian Ocean, India, January 2009

Ice in India is my ABC Wednesday

While traveling in India we spend seven weeks in the Khozikode (or Calicut) in Kerala. We love to stay and get in contact with the locals. Our friend Rajesh showed us around. One day we went to Beypure. To the cold place of this ice plant, to the hot harbor and to the lovely beach. A great day. A very special Indian day.

ABC Wednesday - B

Bahia de Salinas, Costa Rica, November 2009

Thomas, two years old, [how time flys - he turned 5 this month].

Andreas and Thomas, the brothers love each other and still find games which are fun for both (Andreas is 11 years older) .

And that's me. One rare pic with me wearing a dress. Andreas is brushing his teeth.
This is my ABC Wednesday for thr letter B. A boat on the beach and my boys. And a Bahia.
Some very special moments from my travel I like to I remember very often. This is one great morning. After a stressfull day filled with crossing the border from Nicaragua to Costa Rica. Here it was so unexpacted peacefull, lovely and relaxing. Just a happy morning on the beach.
More pics from this morning at the beach, after spending the night there in our tent.

Happy New 2012 and Favorite Photo from 2011

On the Amazon between Manaus and Belem, Brazil. February 2010
Thank you for all your views and great comments. This blogging year was awesome, fun, learning and so inspirational.

My favorite photo from last year is this one. I like it because of the people and their action.
Some more Amazon shots in this post.
The most views got the post rainforest. The most comments the sky from "Before the rain #2"
And I do love this people walk in the street - in a hurry in black & white.

Peruvian girl with her pet

On board "Cabo Pantoja", Peru, January 2010

We spend five days on this ship on our way from Pantoja to Iquitos on the Rio Napo (Amazon). People had a lot of animals on board, to sell them or to eat them, but this little ape was one of the few pets. The girl looks sad here, but she was proud of her animal and normaly her face was curious.

Costa Rica – In the morning

Bahia de Salinas, Costa Rica, November 2009
Traveling by car from Canada to Panama was not always easy. But we found very quite and beautiful places. After crossing the border (always so much hassle) out of Nicaragua it got dark and we had no idea where to sleep. Where should we go? Hans had a great idea: From internet he had coordinates from places where others had spend the night, somewhere at the beach. Even it was totally dark and it was only a thiny unpaved road, which seemed to go nowhere, it was easy to find this place.

In the sand. Under some trees.

Alone.

We could not see the ocean but it was very close. (For sure we checked the distance.)

We pitched the tent and had a wonderful night.

With waves making our bedtime sound.

Imagine to wake up and don't know how it does look like.

Hans, our two kids and I, we had a beautiful morning at the beach.

This was our place.

The next two nights we did couchsurfing in Santa Cruz with a young family.

For travel this two possibilities to stay at night are my favorite. In nature places sleeping in the tent is the best.
In urban areas it's best to stay with other people in their homes and get to know the local culture, that is couchsurfing.

Linked to ABC Wednesday and the letter for today is C for Costa Rica. Or for Camping in Costa Rica.

Tres Fronteras

Going in a small boat from Peru to Brazil, February 2010

From Wikipedia:
Tres Fronteras (Portuguese: Três Fronteiras) is the Spanish name for an area of the Amazon Rainforest, noted for its natural beauty, where Brazil, Peru, and Colombia meet. Cities near here are Tabatinga, Leticia, and Santa Rosa de Yavari, this latter on an island in front of Leticia.

A very interesting stop on our trip down the Amazon in this three cities and three countries all so close together. But try to imagine how hot and humid it is.

By ship we came in two days from Iquitos (Peru), spend one night in the very quite Santa Rosa (no cars), spend three more nights in Tabatinga. To Leticia we drove by mini bus to change money.

Our trip on the Amazon continued from Tabatinga to Manaus (Brazil). Again two days on a local ship. All easy to organize while we were there.

I posted some photos from this leg before.
