Just a spring day in Lünen

The river Lippe is runnung through Lünen
It was just an ordinary work day. And I had my camera with me. And the weather was fantastic. Monday means I have to walk a bit between different work places, so that's for me the opportunity to see, to stand still and open my eyes.
And I walked another way along the river Lippe.
When I say this pictures on the computer I realy felt the need to keep on blogging. I don't know how often, but here it is.

The Human Blue Whale in Lünen

This big mural is facing a former department store, empty since 2009, now under construction.

The Human Blue Whale is a very special work. Descripton below with the words from the artists website:
"On October 15, 2011, 59 women spoke loud and clear through their bodies on behalf of the largest living animal this planet has ever seen.

Together as one single organism, they formed the silhouette of a 28 meter (93 feet) long female Blue Whale, in the rich waters of the Gulf of California Mexico, where these animals come every year to reproduce and feed. Like an ancient ritual, this act had a purpose: to give back to nature and commit to protecting the marine corridors of the Blue Whale.

This ceremony of The Human Blue Whale is the work of the conservation artist Patricio Robles Gil. Los Rituales del Reencuentro is a series of art pieces in which he uses human bodies as canvases and sculptures, to represent the most endangered and emblematic animals on Earth.

That autumn day, the wind ceased and the sea surface was like a mirror. For many of the participants it was a memorable point in their lives.

Now, you can see the final image of The Human Blue Whale and help change the future for these giants."

UFO on a tower - or a symbol from Lünen

Lüntec-Tower and office building in the technology park, Lünen, yesterday

A former winding tower from the coal mine from 1922. Now the symbol from the Lüntec technology park. Mining stopped in 1992, the capsule on top was build in 1995 and the technolgy park opend as part of the structural change in the Ruhr district (German Ruhrgebiet).

Popularly called Colani-Ei, after the designer Luigi Colani and the egg-shape. Or it is called UFO. Seen from a distance it does actually look like.

I posted a lot of pictures from this "UFO tower" before, all with the label UFO

but for the first time I took this view with the sign

ABC Wednesday - N is for ...

Kite Festival Drachenfest Lünen, last Saturday
... Night or night flying, an attraction from the Kite Festival in my town. And it was a big show with illuminated kites, kites with fire spirals on it and a firework: A fantastic evening, even when the rain started with the beginning of the night show.
Linked to ABC Wednesday.

To see more kite photos from the years before look here.

And I have lots of photos. It is the one year thing where I always shoot.

Lünen

August 2012

This house dates back from 1600

Lünen is the town where I live. But I'm not living in the historical old town, I live in a former village close to Dortmund.

From Wikipedia: Lünen or Luenen is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located north of Dortmund along the Lippe River. It is the largest town of the Unna district, and part of the green Münster area.
