On the road in Xinjiang

Xinjiang, China, May 2009
The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in the far west of China. We came from Pakistan by bus over the Khunjerab Pass to this region. It is so different from other parts in China.

H2O

Playing "H2O", Helios Theater, Hamm, December 2011
From the Helios Theater site:
Water - we seem to know everything about this element. But when we take a closer look at it, it’s full of surprises and it’s still a mystery to scientists up to the present day.

Water is enormous power, sputtering life and sparkling joy.

May it be as a melting ice–block, a shimmering fountain or as ascending damp, as a refreshing drink or a sweeping wave, as an element of sound or reflector of light, in this performance it always takes on new forms. It inspires performers and audience alike and generates a poetry that gives us an idea of the Wonder of Life.

It starts with one single drop…

I love to run, around one hours, two times a week, slowly, along the canal, with Hans.
What's your favorite exercise?

Yellowstone backcountry camping

Where is the bush toilet? Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA, August 2009
On the shore of Heart Lake the campsite 8J6. Such a beautiful place in the Yellowstone backcountry with a stream for drinking water close by.
A map you find here: Heart Lake Backcountry Campsites

campsite 8J6
We stayed here two nights (and it was our last camp at this 12 day / 11 nights hiking trip). What an incredible scenery with wonderful sunsets over Mt. Sheridan.

And there was Silence (a previous post) with the lake in different light.

A box toilet, in the middle of a meadow, behind the camp

The bear pole with some huge Grizzly claws

I love this place. I love wilderness. And this hiking was one of the best adventure I've ever had.

Cape town scenery - Chapman's Peak Drive

The Atlantic near Cape Town, Chapmans Peak Drive, February 2011
A view from a very scenic road. The Chapman's Peak Drive is famous for it's beauty. We had a wonderful day. I love this view!

From Wikipedia:
Chapman's Peak is the name of a mountain on the western side of the Cape Peninsula, about 15 kilometres south of Cape Town, South Africa. It is opposite the inlet on which the town of Hout Bay is centred.

The western flank of the mountain falls sharply for hundreds of metres into the Atlantic Ocean. A spectacular road, known as Chapman's Peak Drive, hugs the near-vertical face of the mountain from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. Hacked out of the face of the mountain between 1915 and 1922, the road was at the time regarded as a major feat of engineering. Chapman's Peak Drive was closed in the 1990s, after a rockfall caused a death and a subsequent lawsuit, and subsequently reopened after being re-engineered to protect motorists from falling rocks. It was reopened in 2005 as a toll road. The road was again closed for a number of months beginning on 19 June 2008 "as a result of risk areas identified on the mountain above the road", but has since been reopened indefinitely

Signs after the war

Mines! With our bikes we stayed on the road, for sure. Near Osijek, Croatia, October 2008

In Vukovar, Croatia
That is left from the Croation War of Independence.

It' s reality. And in some areas you face a very bad history and reality.

This is part of my travels too.
